French Studies Library Group

The aims of the FSLG, which was founded in 1999, are:

  • To act as a focus for librarians and others concerned with the provision of library resources and services in French studies in the United Kingdom
  • To facilitate cooperation in the provision, access, promotion and preservation of French printed and electronic resources
  • To provide a forum for the dissemination of information on these topics between libraries and between libraries and the scholarly user community
  • To liaise with related library groups
  • French studies are defined as the study of French-speaking countries and their cultures and, more broadly, of all subjects requiring the use of research and teaching material in French
  • The FSLG is a member of WESLINE (West European Studies Library and Information Network)

Membership is open to any person or institution with an interest in the aims of the Group.

Annual Review

The FSLG Annual Review is an annual publication. It is a mixture of feature articles and news items covering all matters relating to French studies librarianship.
The editor is Sarah Brain. It is available as an epublication only.

AGM and Conference

The FSLG AGM for 2009 and WESLINE conference for 2009 will be held in Durham on 2-5 September 2009. A draft programme and a booking form are available on the WESLINE website.

The FSLG AGM for 2008 and WESLINE 2008 Conference 'Social Studies of Western Europe: Projects and resources' was held on 1 and 2 September at the British Library in London. The full conference programme and a selection of conference papers may be viewed on the WESLINE website.

The FSLG AGM for 2007 took place at the British Library in London on Friday 15 June 2007. The AGM was followed by a tour of the British Library Newspaper Collection in Colindale, North London. Please click here to view and download the programme.

The WESLINE conference for 2007 - (organised jointly with the Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London) - took place at the IGRS on Wednesday 12 September 2007. The title of this one-day colloquium was: "Exploding the Canon. From Medieval Romance to TV Soap: meeting the challenges in resource provision"
